Happy Friday! Â Just wanted to pop in for q quick little post about a story I heard this week. Â Now this is an old story. Â Several years old. Â So some of you may have heard about it and if you did, then I apologize for my being late to the game. Â Anyways, this story is near and dear to me because of my day job. Â For those of you that don’t know, I am a speech therapist. Â Sometimes when I work on certain skills, I use board games for motivational purposes. Â Basically to make things more fun. Â One I use pretty often is the game Guess Who. Â I have the old school version. Â Now Guess Who is also a pretty great game for teaching language skills actually. Â Kids have to look at the people and identify characteristics that are different about them, they have to use reasoning skills to figure out which people to knock down once you answer their questions, they have to formulate an appropriate question and honestly I could go on and on. Â What I am trying to say is that I really like this game for speech therapy. Â What I have always hated about this game is that if someone gets a girl as their “person,” they are ultimately doomed to failure. Â That’s because there are 5 girls in this game and 19 boys. Â Really. Â I have never seen anyone win with a girl and I’ve played this game more often than I would like to admit. Â In some of my less aware moments, I have even encouraged my little speech kiddos that are girls NOT to pick girls. Â Because girl equals losing the game. Â Y’all. Â What a giant crock that is. Â So all of these years of being annoyed about the inequality of this game, I have just kept on using it and accepted this idiocy as just the way the cookie crumbles. Â So when I read about this six year old little girl who took matters into her own hands, I was exceptionally impressed. Â She (with the help of her mom) wrote a letter to the company to share her disgust with the whole thing. Â Here it is.
Um, yes. Â I feel cross about that as well, R. Â I am so glad that a six year old can see the stupidity in this. Â Honestly, these kinds of stories give me much hope for our little girls in the future. Â If something seems unfair to you, go on and throw it out the window. Â Obviously Hasbro wrote back with some dumb excuse about numerical equations. Â And then R was like, mom what the crap are they talking about. Â So R’s mom wrote back and told them their response was a bunch of buffoonery and completely inappropriate for a 6 year old. Â To which they responded they would consider adding more girls in the future. Â Well we certainly hope so. Â If you would like to read the letters from Hasbro and Jennifer’s mom (it’s a winner), here is a story that goes into more details.
Now I will go about my Friday hoping to kick as much ass as a six year old British girl. Â I hope you all will do the same.
Oh man, I LOVED Guess Who?! They need to get some ladies in the mix; it does send a crap message.
Go Girls! Did you see the commercial with the little girls going through all the paper money (1s, 5s, 10s etc) and looking for the ladies and asking where they are? Someone is trying to get Susan B Anthony as a replacement for one. Storm Congress! We want a woman on our bills!
